Work Financial impact and support

Worries about money and work are common for those affected by breast cancer. However, these can be especially difficult if you are self-employed.

Along with health concerns, you may be wondering how:

you will carry on working throughout your treatment
your diagnosis may impact your business
you will cope financially and continue to pay the bills
to share your diagnosis with your staff and/or clients
you can step back from work for a short period and who could fulfil your duties in the interim.

The information throughout this section can assist you if you are self-employed and recently diagnosed with breast cancer.

When I was diagnosed with breast cancer I owned a small business and was the major family contributor. So taking time away from work was not an option and, in retrospect, I think working through the treatment was a good option for me.

Access free financial counselling from MoneySmart and, if you are in a rural area, from Rural Financial Counselling Service.
Access help with a functional assessment at work or a rehabilitation plan from Occupational Therapy Australia.
